Lalmai Pahar


Lalmai pahar is a one of the best wonder in comilla district. It is a nice place in Bangladesh.  Lalmai Hills north-south elongated low hill range of about 17 km long and 1-2.4 km wide and about 8 km westward from Comilla Township is called the Lalmai-Mainamati hill range. The northern extremity of the hill ranges is at Ranir Bungalow whereas the southern extremity ends at Chandimura. The northern part of the hill range is locally known as Mainamati, while the southern part is known as Lalmai. The name Lalmai is probably derived from red soil or from the Lalambi forest (well known for medicinal herbs), close to devaparvata, the capital of the Devas of Samatat, was somewhere in the Mainamati hill.

MEZBAN “The Unique Tradition of Chittagong” 


Mezban Persian word literally meaning a host. The word now means 'community feasting', a tradition that originated in Chittagong region. It is usually hosted by rich people and the main occasion to organise it is the observance of the 12th day of the lunar month Rabiul Awal, the date of birth and death of hazrat muhammad (Sm). Other occasions include the death anniversary of an individual, the birth of a child, any special achievement by someone, inauguration of a new business, or celebration of the entrance to a new residence.

It is not obligatory for the mezban to invite anybody individually. The invitation is open and according to tradition, once the information about organisation of mezban is made public, it becomes a social responsibility for all to join it.

Organising a mezban symbolises a high profile of the host. Mezban organisers take pride in the number of people joining the feast, which sometimes may go up to a few thousands. A notable feature of the mezban is its simple menu: just rice and beef curry.

Mezbaan is one. It is a traditional program of Chittagong, Bangladesh.

The meaning of Mezbaan is ‘a good host providing hospitality’. In this program, a person to his home of in other places invites many people of about all levels of the society in differe4nt types of occasions.

The main occasion in which Mezbaan is organized is called ‘fateha’. Fateha is an occasion that is held at the fourth day of death of a person or in every death anniversary of that parson. Mezbaan is arranged in this occasion for the peace of the spirit of the dead parson.

Another program in which Mezbaan is arranged is the day when the newborn baby is given a name. This program is known as ‘akika’.

Mezbaan is also organized in the birth anniversary of famous parsons, to celebrate any achievement, in reunion programs of many organizations.

The recipe of Mezbaan is plane rice, beef and mutton. However, chicken and fish are arranged for the special guests. The beef of Mezbaan is so special. The taste of this beef is totally different from the ordinary dishes of beef. Now in many restaurants of Chittagong they serve the recipe of Mezbaan.

The number of guests invited in Mezbaan varies from 500 to even 40000 depending on the capability, popularity and position of the host in the society.

Many people of different areas of Bangladesh are fond of Mezbaan of Chittagong. This tradition is a symbol of social bondage between different levels of the society.

Mezban, the tradition of the Chittagong region has now spread in towns and villages of many other areas. Most organisers, however, are still the rich people hailing from Chittagong. The mezban food is also prepared mainly by Chittagong chefs. Winter is the favourite season for organising mezban.
